Its estimated that around 1500 people die in Estonia each year due to medical errors, according to the 2010 study up at the website of Tartu University, Estonian daily Eesti Päevaleht wrote on April 18, 2011. Accounting the population it is over three times more likely than in US you will die in Estonia due to medical error.
But unlike in US or Western Europe admitting medical errors and dealing with it has remained taboo in Estonia, where medical quality and health care are supervised largely by people who got their education and some obviously also the (lack of) ethical standards from Soviet system.
